The selection system of PAF is designed to be lengthy & tough, as a result only capable individuals can be inducted. In order to maintain its traditions of professional excellence, the PAF is quite selective in choosing the right type of young men to maintain and support its sophisticated aircraft and equipment.
As Pakistan has strengthened its Army and Navy; it has also provided its Air force with latest aircraft like F-16 Blk-52, F-16 MLU and JF-17. Moreover continuous efforts are being made for the procurement of the latest aircraft. The aim is not only to make use of the latest military technology but to formulate an effective war strategy. The objective is also to train technical manpower, which is capable enough to exploit full potential of the available technology.
Initial rank granted to airmen on passing out from training institutions LAC/SAC depending upon the training tenure. General procedure for further promotion is made under the following guidelines:- Service tenure, Clearance of respective promotion examinations, Overall performance during service, Disciplinary disposals, Medical Fitness
JCOs and airmen are also offered a range of service courses that are helpful in building a successful career. JCOs and airmen are promoted to the next higher rank keeping in view their service performance, medical history and trade exams. These courses are as follows :- Skill Enhancement Programme (SEP) / Qualifying Exam I (QE - I), Advance Skill Test (AST) / Qualifying Exam II (QE - II), Maintenance Supervisory Course (MSC) / Qualifying Exam III (QE - III), Military Leadership and Command Course (M L & C)
PAF personnel also avail certain benefits under certain rules and regulations. These are as follows:- Reduced Air and Train Fare. Deputation and courses abroad. Free medical treatment. Free air lift to certain specified locations on availability of service aircraft.
Pension / Commutation of Officers, JCOs and Airmen is governed by military pensions rules – 1960. Military Pension excludes disability pension,family pension, compassionate allowance and children allowance but includes anticipatory pension. In case of Commissioned Officers, however, commutation, and permanent disability pension is also permitted within the limits subject to medical conditions.Pakistan Air Force offers handsome pension on retirement. The amount of pension will depend upon the length of service and rank / pay scale on retirement. Pension will be granted after the qualifying service for all the cadres.
JCOs and airmen may be permitted, keeping in view the service requirements, to take university / board examination during service. For examinations involving preparatory evening classes, JCOs / airmen are required to seek permission of the local commanders. Requests from JCOs and Airmen for attending evening classes are to be entertained only if it is felt that service requirements would not be compromised. The recommended applications of JCOs / airmen who fulfill criteria are to be forwarded for grant of requisite permission.
