Promotion policy is governed by Personnel Branch, Air Headquarters and may be revised from time to time after approval by the CAS. Suitability of officers for promotion is based on the following guidelines:- Overall performance during service. Clearance of respective promotion examination. Experience of command appointments. Staff and Command Course reports. Disciplinary disposals. Medical Fitness. Security Clearance
Pakistan Air Force provides opportunity to its officers to proceed for higher education from different foreign universities. These courses are sponsored by renowned universities and by the PAF on its own arrangement. During service, PAF personnel also get the opportunity to go abroad on deputation and foreign courses for professional growth and skill enhancement programme.
PAF personnel also avail certain benefits under certain rules and regulations. These are as follows:- Defece Services Officers Provident (DSOP) Fund. Reduced Air and Train Fare. Deputation and courses abroad. Housing Schemes. Non practicing allowance for doctors. Free medical treatment. Free air lift to certain specified locations on availability of service aircraft.
Officers are promoted to the next higher rank keeping in view their service performance, medical history, command and staff appointments, and service courses. A number of service courses are offered to officers wherein a wide range of subjects related to command and staff appointments are taught. These courses are as follows:- Basic Staff Course (BSC). Junior Command and Staff Course (JC&SC). Senior Command and Staff Course (SC &SC).
Officers holding Short Service Commission (SSC), Special Purpose Short Service Commission (SPSSC) and Extended Service Commission (ESC) are eligible for the grant of Permanent Commission (PC) after three and subsequent years of their commissioned service subject to the following conditions:- The officer must be below 36 years of age at the time of commissioning. The officer must have minimum grading of last three years annual OERs as high average, without any adverse remarks. The officer should possess a very satisfactory record in all respects.
The officers who qualify eligibility criteria are detailed for ISSB and those recommended by ISSB are considered for PC. The lady officers who are willing for PC, may be considered for the same on completion of 10 years of commissioned service. The date of PC would be the date of notification
Officers, fulfilling the eligibility criteria may apply for permission to take admission (inland / abroad) and study leave, at least 03 months in advance to course / leave commencement date. If permission is granted the officer is to submit admission letter for subsequent issuance of NOC. After taking permission, the officer can apply for any scholarship program (e.g. HEC etc) to sponsor his studies during the period of study leave. In case of sanctioning of full time study / study leave, the officer would not be considered for a service sponsored Post Graduate / PhD courses in the future.
Pension / Commutation of Officers, JCOs and Airmen is governed by military pensions rules – 1960. Military Pension excludes disability pension,family pension, compassionate allowance and children allowance but includes anticipatory pension. In case of Commissioned Officers, however, commutation, and permanent disability pension is also permitted within the limits subject to medical conditions.Pakistan Air Force offers handsome pension on retirement. The amount of pension will depend upon the length of service and rank / pay scale on retirement. Pension will be granted after the qualifying service for all the cadres.

Engineers selected in PAF play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the operational efficiency of Air Force. They lead a team of highly skilled technicians to ensure that all weapon systems operate to the optimum capacity and efficiency.
Education officers in PAF make a meaningful contribution in order to groom and train officers to play their role effectively and efficiently. They respond adaptively to a variety of tasks, which they are expected to perform.
Efficient and effective Administration is an intrinsic requirement of combat-oriented service. Intelligent and energetic young personnel in this specialty are chosen.
Logistic support, even a well-prepared plan cannot be properly executed. In this regard, a well-organized logistic system is essentially required in which meticulous and industrious young personnel render their services and make full use of acquired knowledge related to supply and operational activities.
Accurate and rapid information / data processing is a prerequisite for all management, logistic and operational plans and their day-to-day running. Young individuals with talent for computer related work can lead gratifying life as IT officer in the PAF.
